Action 66-Vote NO on ending debate on the continuing resolution!
Background: A continuing resolution “must” be passed before the 14th of this month or the government shuts down. But first, there has to be a resolution to end debate in the Senate, and it requires 60 votes to do that. Democrats have 47 votes: Republicans have 53. A vote will be taken in the next 48 hours or so.
Ending debate means the Republican-written continuing resolution would be voted on without amendment. NO Democrat should vote to end debate.
Republicans say their continuing resolution is just a continuation of Biden’s budget, but that is a lie. It ALSO contains money for other Trump priorities, and there is nothing in the resolution to control “ ...the DOGE crime spree, which is really an attack on the sovereignty of the American people. What this bill, the new continuing resolution bill, amounts to is an Elon license deal. Musk has already slashed or shut down Social Security, VA medical funding, cancer cure research and tons other stuff. He’s trying as hard as he can to fire air traffic controllers, according to Trump’s own transportation secretary. This bill gives him free and clear to do that for the next six months.” (1) The Republican continuing resolution does not require Trump to abide by the Constitution and spend the money that Congress has appropriated for the purposes intended by Congress. It needs to say so, explicitly, because we cannot trust the Trump/Musk Administration to follow the law.
Action: Call Senators King and Collins. Ask them to vote NO to ending debate and instead to add this AMENDMENT to the continuing budget resolution:
Failure by the administration of Donald J Trump to faithfully disburse funds hereby appropriated will be a violation of the Constitution and grounds for Impeachment of the President.
Contact: ASK TO SPEAK WITH THE LEGISLATIVE DIRECTOR.
OK to be routed to voicemail for the legislative director, but whoever you speak with in person, deliver the message to that person also.
Senator Angus King: Phone: (202) 224-5344 (DC office)
Senator Susan Collins: Phone: (202) 224-2532 (DC office)
Urgency: Call within the next 24 hours
