Action #6 Reject anti-immigration extremism directed at Hancock County!

Background:   Hancock County and Cumberland County are apparently the only

counties in Maine* in the crosshairs of anti-immigration, racist, extremist Stephen

Miller and his hate group “America First Legal”.  Miller is profiled by the Southern

Poverty Law Center.

His outfit has sent a threatening letter directed at local officials across the

country, purportedly including our Hancock County Commissioners, although as

of this writing the letter hadn’t been received in Hancock Co.

(text of letter is here: https://media.aflegal.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/23131507/AFL-Sanctuary-City-Letters.pdf)

Action: Support our local officials and urge them to stand strong in the face of

right-wing bullying.  Write or call EACH of the County Commissioners, expressing

support for a reasonable and humane policy that comports with existing laws,

rather than bending our rules to curry favor with right-wing scare mongers like

Stephen Miller.  Any letter or email to the commissioners should be copied to the

county sheriff, Scott Kane, who would be the official on the front lines.  Also copy

the Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey.

Contact Information:

Email the Commissioners:

WILLIAM.CLARK@HANCOCKCOUNTYMAINE.GOV

JOHN.WOMBACHER@HANCOCKCOUNTYMAINE.GOV

SAMUEL.DIBELLA@HANCOCKCOUNTYMAINE.GOV

Email Scott Kane at

https://hancockcountymaine.gov/contact/hancock-county-contact-

form/?target_person=Sheriff

Email Aaron Frey:

Attorney.general@maine.gov

A complete list of sanctuary cities is at https://cis.org/Map-Sanctuary-

Cities-Counties-and-States.

Hancock County probably made the list

because of the policies of the county jail pertaining to incarcerated

undocumented immigrants.
