Action 150: Three Actions

Things seem to be coming to a head, nationally.  There are legitimate questions being raised, even by Republicans, about who is in charge of the government, and where we are headed.  So this is NOT the moment to cower in fear, or give up in frustration and disgust.  Quite the contrary, it’s the moment to use what we have learned since January about authoritarian takeovers to prevent it from happening here, in the United States of America, a nation that once was the beacon of freedom around the world.  Today I am forwarding three actions developed by Indivisible and others.  Joining with other groups in a sustained effort will magnify your effectiveness.  Pick one or more of the following and jump on board, this weekend.  We are all in this together.

ACTION 1:
Save Maine Absentee Voting.
We’ve been beating the drum on this issue since January 7 when we sent out Action #8. Remember reading about the referendum that a far-right group sneakily collected signatures for last summer?  The one that will be on the ballot this November?  Well, finally there is an organized campaign to defeat it, and you can help.  They have found a message that will resonate with voters who don’t pay much attention to political news.  (Yes, despite the obvious threats to their way of life, those people still exist.)  Sign up to help out: https://saveabsentee.me/

ACTION 2:
Safeguarding Civil Liberties 2.0: How Blue States Can Fight Back Against Trump’s Immigration Crackdown and Secret Policing.
Are you as appalled as we are about the violation of human rights that is occurring and spreading?  Don’t wait until they come for you or your loved ones!  Instead, go to this website and follow the suggestions therein.

ACTION 3:
One Million Rising: Strategic Non-Cooperation to Fight Authoritarianism.  “
This summer, the No Kings coalition is launching One Million Rising — a national effort to train one million people in the strategic logic and practice of non-cooperation, as well as the basics of community organizing and campaign design.”  Please note, this action depends on actual, on the ground, local leadership. It’s a three-part training on alternate Wednesday evenings.  Topics are listed below.  Talk with your friends and decide if you are up to the challenge.  If so, sign up here:
