Action 149 Good Trouble July 17
Background: Pro-democracy rallies have been growing slowly and steadily since Inauguration Day. The No Kings Day rallies were the largest single-day protest in our nation’s history. On July 17 THURSDAY, there will be a continuation of the No Kings Day rallies under the banner of Good Trouble Lives On.
It’s important to maintain the momentum. We have important issues coming up for a referendum vote in Maine this November and we have to energize people to go vote. Twelve months later, in November of 2026, we need to flip both houses of Congress, undo the damage, and repair our democracy.
Bonnie describes her experience protesting in Ellsworth, and it’s right on point: “I’ve attended several protests at Town Hall. They’ve grown over time and that’s great. I never saw more than 3 MAGA supporters there. In contrast, when I attended the July 4th protest on High Street I realized that we had taken our protest beyond our group and brought it to everyone who passed by. The people who drove by weren’t intending to participate in a protest that day but they did just by being in the same place. In spite of the vulgar MAGA supporters who put up their middle fingers, we delivered a message to many people that protesting is fun, easy, safe, and peaceful. It was the kind of SOCIAL PROOF that signaled both the opportunity to protest and an invitation to do so. At Town Hall, you pretty much had to go there to get that message. I hope this will serve as a call to action to attend the High Street protest on July 17th from 3:30 to 5:30. Our message is good, powerful, and important.”
Action: The weather in Ellsworth on Thursday the 17th is supposedly going to be cloudy and 78 degrees. So, attend the demonstration, try to bring at least one friend who hasn’t been to a rally before, bring signs, take pictures. Trump’s policies are not popular and Republicans are starting to realize this, which provides a good opportunity to help more of them escape the cult.
