Dear Peninsula Friends:
We've been through a very anxious time and we're all trying to figure out what we can do to reignite action and support for our democracy.
I watched Heather Cox Richardson's latest video: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1JAvm4qQBX/
Her reporting has been laser straight and true.
And I listened to Anne Applebaum's podcast Atlantic's Autocracy in America, specifically "Reality Reshaped" S3 E3, on totalitarian regimes and their efforts to
reduce trust in our institutions of education, health, science, federal agencies, law firms. Both are exceptional.
With consultation of Rob Shetterly, Sherry Streeter, Barbara Bramble, Peter Sly, Diane Page and others, I'd like to pull together a group of great thinkers and defenders of democracy to discuss how to preserve our democratic institutions, combat autocracy. I'd like to bring together a group of community members to discuss these issues, how best to organize, and what we can do. People of all stripes as we need all of us behind this. Right, left, independent, young, old. We all believe in our democratic institutions! Other organizations have formed and we need to figure out how we best can effect change.
In person meeting at the Blue Hill Library's Bass Room (basement) on Thursday, Jan. 29 at 7pm. Only holds 12-15 people. So we need to have an RSVP. Are you able to join us? Please let us know if you can.
