Arts Matter. Courage is Contagious.

Please save the date and help to spread the word as we hope to see you at KNOCKABOUT at St. Brendan's Community Hall on Friday, November 21 from 4-7 pm. Please feel free to forward this invitation!

KNOCKABOUT is a local, grassroots community evening -- part traditional New England spaghetti supper, part free-wheeling performance including devised and improvised dance, music, poetry, art, drama and spoken word by local artists celebrating community creativity and exercising our freedom of speech.

KNOCKABOUT is a Deer Isle-Stonington/Blue Hill Peninsula edition of a national series, FALL OF FREEDOM, Nov 21-22. Fall of Freedom (www.falloffreedom.com) is an urgent call to the arts community to unite in defiance of authoritarian forces sweeping the nation. Rather than uniting in protest, our creative gathering celebrating the experiences, cultures, and the multitude of identities of all of who we are is its own form of resistance, healing, and love.

Culture and creativity are our strengths; our voices are our freedom.

This is a moment in history when artists and cultural organizations most need to step into our roles as beacons of democracy.

In addition to the 4 pm spaghetti supper, the evening will feature improvised performances by a wide range of multidisciplinary regional artists, including but not limited to music, poetry, dance, spoken word and video from the likes of dancers Meg Wolfe and Dani Robbins; performers Mia Kanazawa and Anna Dembska; spoken word artists and musicians Dame Judith and the Oceanville Improvisatory Music Collective (Judith Jerome with musicians Tom and Frank Gotwals); Chris Ross; Leslie Ross; Walker Collin; Bea Gates and many others.

The evening will conclude with an Open Mic session for anyone wishing to offer art -- either another's or their own -- in the service of freedom (no speeches!).

KNOCKABOUT is free and donations are gladly accepted to cover food and facility costs. Everyone is encouraged to give what they can and no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Any funds raised above and beyond expenses will be donated to the Stonington Food Pantry.

Hope you will join us there.
