Action 48 – Reject Mehmet OZ – AGAIN!

Background:  On January 20 we sent out action item #14 urging rejection of this nominee to head the Center of Medicare and Medicaid Services.  At that time his confirmation hearings hadn’t been scheduled, but now they are imminent.

 This short take on OZ comes to us from Maine AllCare: 

“Mehmet Oz, despite holding a medical license, has a well-established reputation for medical quackery. Here are a few things on his resume:

1.    Has long pushed misleading, science-free and unproven alternative therapies

2.    Has promoted hydroxyquinoline as a treatment for COVID-19 with no proof

3.    Settled for $5.25 million a lawsuit against him for touting coffee extract supplements for weight loss

4.    Wants to end traditional Medicare and force all seniors onto privatized, for-profit Medicare Advantage plans

5.    Has deep financial ties to health care and insurance companies, posing a conflict of interest.”

Although he has “promised to divest”, do you really believe him?  Well, our naive Senior Senator just might, so we need to call her, again.  Ask her please to stop being so gullible! With her votes to confirm the least qualified and most authoritarian nominees in history, she personally is enabling a coup, and it will end in disaster for all of us. Don’t forget to tell her your story, if you have one to tell, such as how horrendous some aspect of a private-for-profit medicare “advantage” plan has been for you, or how you were sickened by a quack cure.  Let the folks at Maine AllCare know you have taken action. info@maineallcare.org
