Action 98 Investigate WinRed!

Background:  Democrats and allied progressive organizations get a huge % of their funding from small dollar donations through ActBlue (https://secure.actblue.com ).  It’s very effective. So, of course, the Dept of Injustice under Pam Bondi is under orders from Trump to “investigate” ActBlue.  But not, as Senator Chris Murphy points out, the Republican counterpart, WinRed (https://winred.com).  The investigation arises from House Republicans who have alleged that ActBlue inadequately screens for donations from foreign entities.

Marc Elias of Democracy Docket reports: “ActBlue is just one of the many core Democratic institutions that Trump and his fellow Republicans have targeted. Trump has launched a broad assault on lawyers and law firms that represent Democratic campaigns and defend voting rights.  Last week, Trump also threatened to use the Internal Revenue Service as a political weapon against his opponents. The president said his administration was looking into revoking tax exemptions from environmental and anti-corruption advocacy groups “who go after Trump.”

Action:  Demand that Congressional Democrats initiate an independent investigation of WinRed and any other Republican fundraising organizations.  The investigation must be independent of the DOJ, which is so obviously partisan that it has lost all credibility.  The letter alleging bad behavior on the part of Act Blue was signed by the Republican members of three committees.  Contact the ranking Democratic members of those committees, listed under Contacts.  Explain that you are a small dollar donor, express your disgust with the Republican’s blatantly partisan effort to reduce the effectiveness of ActBlue, and ask them to find a way to investigate WinRed

outside of the Trump DOJ!  Also call our Maine Representatives.  ActBlue is important to them!
