Action 39 -Support Mainecare!

Background:

Maine hospitals and health care providers are warning of significant financial challenges if lawmakers can’t resolve a partisan stalemate over emergency funding for the MaineCare program. Health care providers, already facing fiscal strain, say that delays to MaineCare payments would exacerbate the situation. MaineHealth could see about $100 million in delayed payments if the budget isn’t approved.   MaineCare is the Maine version of Medicaid, the federal health insurance program for low income Mainers.  About 400,000 people are on MaineCare.  This is almost 30% of our population!  Many of these recipients are children, the disabled, and the elderly.  If our medical providers cannot afford to treat them, the consequences will be dire for the patients and for the entire medical system in the state.

Action:  CONTACT area Republican legislators to vote for the emergency supplemental.  These emergency budgets have achieved the necessary 2/3rds vote in the past without the current obstructions. The national Republican obstructionist climate is being replicated in Maine.  Our state legislators shouldn’t buy into it!  They represent WE, THE MAINE PEOPLE! They don’t need to kow tow to Elon Musk or Donald Trump.  Even 20-30 calls to a legislator make a big difference.  Be a caller!
