Action 242: WE WON! Now what?
Background: Aside from the ridiculous election of Paul LePage, (a doddering old fool who will be a member of the freshman class in a party that will have no clout whatsoever), we did pretty well, don’t you think? (Well, of course there was the disappointment of having Democratic lawmakers without cause turn against a fellow Democrat running for County Sheriff, but that reckoning will happen in the future.) So now, after we have popped the champagne corks, where do we put our energies?
One useful thing we can do NOW, is to insist that we are DONE with the Old Boy Network in the Democratic Party. We will not stand for a “coronation” of the existing leadership of Schumer and Jeffries. We need to at least weigh in on new leaders. Here is an article that offers suggested names, but you can offer your own thoughts.

The important thing is to let our Democratic Senator-elect Jackson, our “Independent-but-caucuses-with-the-Democrats” Senator King, and Democratic Representative Chellie Pingree know that we want some thought put into the selection.
Action: Send an email with your recommendations. I’m going with Jamie Raskin or AOC or – Chellie Pingree (!) - for Speaker, and Chris Murphy (if his health permits), Chris VanHollen, or the indefatigable Bernie or – Angus King (!) for Senate majority leader. But that’s just me. You may have other favorites!
